OUR MISSION

We strive to create schools that are welcoming places where all students can succeed regardless of background or socioeconomic level. We envision educators, parents, and students working together to advocate for the well-being of the whole child. Through our collaborative, evidence-based approach, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), The EMC Education Fund will provide resources for students to acquire skills to become successful in and out of the classroom. By fostering deeper connections among students, educators, and the community, the EMC Education Fund will lead the way in creating a supportive, engaging, and dynamic web of connections within each school.

What We Have Learned

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, students were losing connection with the school and their educational opportunities. Unfortunately, the pandemic accelerated that lack of connection. During the prolonged, online at home learning, some students fell so far behind developmentally and academically that they no longer know how to behave or learn at school. Parents were busy trying to keep their heads above the rising economic water line. Combine these factors with the teacher shortage and the long-term impact is devastating. Many of these students are from underserved communities and while largely absent from classes, are still officially on school rosters. That makes it harder to truly count the number of missing students, but estimates of young people not receiving an education is likely over 230,000 according to the Associated Press and Stanford University.
